One more sleep!

Dear Parents,

I am looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. Some families have already seen the post below but I will leave it here until tomorrow to ensure everyone gets this information. It can also be found in the letters section of our blog.

Welcome to the first term at Danehill School! During the holidays I have moved Hedgehogs into a new room. We will now be in the newest part of the building, to the left of the office. When your child starts school please wait in the garden area in front of the office or if you have elder siblings, the main playground and then walk your child round to the garden area once you have seen in your eldest child. I will meet you there and we will walk round the side of the building as we did during the play sessions.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the adults that will be working with your child. Firstly myself, Mrs Viki Shoubridge. I am the Deputy Head of the school, Early Years co-ordinator/class teacher and I work with Clare Filskow, Val Carter and Pedro Carreira. Val and Clare are Teaching Assistants that work with Hedgehogs and Foxes. Clare also has a teaching qualification and will take the class when I have Deputy Head responsibilities. Pedro teaches PE in the school and will take the class for PE on a Friday afternoon. Val works on a Monday, Thursday and Friday afternoon and Clare will be with the class on a Tuesday afternoon.

Our learning journey for the whole of the autumn term will be based on the book ‘You Choose’. Where we will be finding out about each other and our families. Our Learning objectives for our topic are taken from the Early Years Curriculum and we will be working with the children to expand these into purposeful and engaging activities using our ‘Principles of Enlivened Learning’ (which can be found under ‘Further information/Policies’ on the website.) At the end of each week I will update the class blog so you can keep track of how the topic is developing.

All correspondences will be sent out electronically so it is important to either look at the blog regularly or join WordPress so you receive notifications as I post them. Please go to the school website, scroll down to the hedgehog picture which will go to the blog. On the right hand side an icon saying ‘Follow +’ will appear. Follow this link to join and receive notifications.

Book bags can be purchased from the office from the 5th September. Please ensure your child brings this to school each day along with a named water bottle.  Please ensure this has fresh water in each day.

Our Outdoor Woodland Learning is called OWL and this takes place each week. This will start after half term and a letter will be posted mid October with a kit list and a little more detail.

As I mentioned earlier PE will take place on a Friday although we won’t begin wearing our PE kit until the beginning of October, once we have completed our staggered induction.

If you have any questions regarding your child please catch me anytime from 8.40 in the garden area or playground, alternatively feel free to make an appointment to see me if you need a longer or a more confidential chat.

I look forward to an exciting term where I promise lots of fun learning and to take very good care of them!!

Thank you for your continued support,

Viki Shoubridge

Final day as a Hedgehog!

I will leave a small pile of belongings outside the Hedgehogs door at drop off tomorrow. Please check to see if there is anything you can claim. A few items have names but the children have all cleared their draws and pegs so I have added these to the pile too.

Hopefully we will see you all at the church and afterwards for the picnic. If any parents are unable to join us please let me know so I can ensure your child knows.

Thank you to everyone who kindly donated to our vouchers or gave individual gifts. Ali asked me to pass on her thanks too. It’s much appreciated and we are all looking forward to having time to shop!!

Have a lovely Summer break – The Hedgehogs Team
